Remember to Breathe This Weekend
The summer months are all about relaxing and enjoying what the season has to offer. But for many of us these days, stress levels are high and finding time for self-care can be difficult.
In Cochrane, solutions abound. Make a weekend out of it.
Vibrational healing
A recent addition to Historic Downtown Cochrane, the Amaryllis Crystal Garden on our main street can kick start your weekend with a Friday evening sound bath. Nope, no water involved – this is what’s known as vibrational therapy, a deeply immersive experience listening to a variety of tones produced by using gongs on large crystal bowls. Think of giant tuning forks. Stretch out on your yoga mat and feel yourself shift from an active state (beta brain waves) into the deep dream-like relaxation of theta brain waves, as the busyness of the week simply melts away. Here, a state of bliss is not inconceivable. Happily, there is a stunning variety of these crystal bowls (and other items) for sale.
Amaryllis also offers a variety of healing modalities at its Centre for Healing, just northwest of Cochrane. Services include BodyTalk, Thermometry and Craniosacral Therapy. Ask for more info at the shop.
Body, mind and soul
The owner of Spirit of Oneness knows all about the stresses of balancing busy lives. She was a stockbroker for 20 years, working 80-100 hour weeks and raising a family. Something had to give. By learning how to heal herself she is now dedicated to helping others do the same. So very important in the times we are living in.
Recently moved to its new location at 80 Railway Street East, Spirit of Oneness is an oasis of calm and clarity. Browse the wondrous collection of Tibetan singing bowls, gemstones and crystals, wall hangings, jewellery, figurines and dreamcatchers.
Next up: developing the space behind the beaded curtain to be used for workshops and individual healing sessions. Stop in and learn about HeartMath and shamanism. It’s all about combining leading scientific research with ancient healing practices. The result is a uniquely refreshing approach to whole body health and wellness. Sign up for an aura reading or join the next drumming circle.
Back to Nature
One of the best things we can do to recharge our batteries is to get out in nature. A fine activity at this time of year is stargazing. Lying on a blanket under the stars is a perfect recipe for relaxation. August is the time for the famed Perseid meteor showers, a time when the Earth gets a little too close to the Swift-Tuttle comet, which gets a little too close to the sun, releasing a stream of debris that turns into one of the best cosmic light shows for Earthlings. At its peak, you could see more than 60 “shooting stars” an hour. Five minutes out of town, you will find your perfect dark sky. Make a wish!
