Celebrate the Arts!
Did you know you can celebrate everyday of the year? According to the National Day Calendar, January 31st is “Inspire Your Heart With Art Day”. It is a day to celebrate the amazing talent we have right here in Cochrane. How does art affect your heart? How will you celebrate the arts on this day? We have a few suggestions for you to get you inspired!
Public Art
The Self Guided Art Tour will impress upon you Cochrane’s extensive preservation of history, its ranching culture, as well as its keen promotion of local art work. With 17 stops on the Tour, showcasing murals, scuptures and more, it is great way to spend the day celebrating! You can pick up a map in the brochure rack outside the Cochrane Information Centre or read more about how our streets are packed with Art! (please note that the Information Centre is closed to the public due to the current restrictions until Feb 1st)
Peacock Jewellers Studio and Supply
The walls are covered in a rainbow display of jewellery-making supplies including seed beads, gemstones, crystals, cabochons and findings. You’ll also find sterling silver wire for wrapping crystals (take a class!) and all the jewellery tools you’ll need, including those for smithing and metal working. Visit them at their new location in Historic Downtown to celebrate today or read more about how a young girl discovered a treasure chest and transformed it into modern magic!
Saffron Collective Studio
Saffron is a gallery that showcases pottery, paintings, and knick-knacks created by local artists. Not everyone can sell art here though because every saleable item must be a product made within the studio. This is one aspect of the studio that makes Saffron Collective so special, so unique, and so Cochrane. If you have never thrown clay before, you can celebrate art by taking a lesson, whether you are 6 or 60 to bring out your inner artist! Studio West Foundry & Art Gallery
For over 50 years, Don Begg and his wife Shirley have been created award winning bronze scuptures at the foundry right here in Cochrane! They will tell you “Sculpting is like life, we slowly carve what we are destined to become.” Discover your story in their art by watching the video about the Foundry or booking a tour to celebrate on this day!
Route 22 Artist Collective Gallery
The newest gallery in Cochrane is the Route 22 Artist Collect Gallery. Their first feat was opening during a pandemic! The Collective is home to over 40 local artists, showcasing all forms of art under one roof. With an “Interchange” taking place each month, the space transforms with new juried art from the Collective members. The Interchange is happening on the January 31st and Feb 1st, but the new exhibit will be up the Tuesday the 2nd!
