“Postponed due to Weather”
Cochrane Historical & Archival Preservation Society (CHAPS) is planning celebrations for its 20th year as a charitable non-profit organization operating in Cochrane and surrounding area. We are also marking the 5th year of the Cochrane Historical Museum and the 110th year of the Davies “Hospital” building.
The flooding of the Cochrane Historical Museum has recently impacted us with devastating consequences for the charitable foundation. We have had to expand the celebrations into a Flood Relief Fundraiser, to be held Sunday, June 23rd at the Cochrane Ranche Historical Site.
CHAPS will be hosting a Chautauqua with the intention of highlighting the early settlement of Cochrane and surrounding area through displays, performances and activities. (Wikipedia defines the Chautauqua (shə-TAW-kwə) as “an adult education movement in the United States, highly popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Chautauqua assemblies expanded and spread throughout rural America until the mid-1920s. The Chautauqua brought entertainment and culture for the whole community, with speakers, teachers, musicians, showmen, preachers, and specialists of the day.”)
