Tourism Matters
Tourism week – May 24 – 31, 2020, is an annual celebration of Canada’s Tourism organizations, businesses, and partners! Let’s celebrate Tourism Week by showing some love to your favourite local business or saying thank you to the volunteer organizations that plan and host the numerous events we all love to attend in Town!
The Tourism industry is the 5th largest sector in Canada, providing 1 in every 11 jobs, 2% of the GDP and over $102 Billion in economic activity (stats from Tourism Industry Association of Canada) The Tourism Sector encompasses a wide range of businesses and organizations right here in Cochrane.
Although, we do not have tourism statistics in Cochrane, the sector is growing. We can thank our anchor tenants – Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary, Mackay’s Ice Cream and Studio West Bronze Foundry & Art Gallery to name a few. The Lions Rodeo and the Cochrane Fair bring thousands of visitors to Town each year to showcase our ranching roots. Cochrane Tourism Association, the local Destination Marketing Organization for Cochrane and area, is at the forefront of growing the tourism sector, by partnering and promoting the local business community and attractions to establish the area as its own unique destination.
Let’s Celebrate Cochrane
To celebrate Tourism Week, we are launching 3 new videos of our tourism partners! We have been telling Cochrane’s story and showcasing the destination brand through our online travel journal for nearly two years. The Travel Journal is a component of CTA’s website where guest journalists are invited to share their experiences as they delve into the myriad of events, adventures, and culinary delights on their journey around Cochrane.
Cochrane is a Destination
From the unique western architecture of our buildings, to the one-of-a-kind landscape that surrounds the valley, Cochrane welcomes visitors with open arms. Local ambassadors will share their love of our small town. For those who appreciate the unexpected, Cochrane is full of pleasant surprises, from the majestic landscape to the comfortable feel of the historic downtown. It’s a feeling you have to experience to understand. It’s both unexplainable and unmistakable.
